Last week I was asked to read something on gratitude to close the eWomen Network luncheon here locally. Following the luncheon, I received several requests for a copy of what I wrote. I’m so glad that many found the words inspiring. Its my belief that having an attitude of gratitude is related to productivity because it takes less energy to be positive than it does to be negative. Conserving energy with an attitude of gratitude leaves you energy left over to create, build, connect, and produce.
Give it a try – post a reminder note (or this poem) to be grateful for what you have during the day and see if you are more energized, get more done and have an easier time focusing on the important things. I’d love to hear how it works out for you.
Here’s the poem I wrote last week:
It’s my choice …
I can choose to be grumpy about my alarm going off so early in the morning, or I can be grateful to be alive to greet another day.
I can choose to be frustrated by my husband leaving dirty socks on the bedroom floor, or I can be grateful to have such a wonderful person in my life.
I can choose to complain that I’m sore today from a hard run or I can be grateful to have my health and a body that can move like I ask it to.
I can choose to be mad at my son for getting a handprint of jam on my sweater, or I can be grateful that I have such incredible children that want to hug me and show me that they love me.
I can choose to get upset over the quarterly taxes I have to pay, or I can be grateful to have a successful business with income that helps support my family and my dreams.
I can choose to grumble when it’s rainy, or I can be grateful that my grass is getting watered for free.
I can choose to whine about the housework that I have to do, or I can be grateful to have a house that provides warmth & shelter for me day after day.
I can choose to feel down about the economy, or I can be grateful to be able to explore how I can serve clients in new ways and thrive.
I can choose to cry because roses have thorns, or I can be grateful that thorns have roses.
I can choose to be disappointed that I don’t have everything I want, or I can be grateful that I have lots to look forward to.
I can choose to feel “less than” when I don’t know something, or I can be grateful for the opportunity to learn.
I can choose to feel pushed down by obstacles and tough challenges, or I can be grateful for the chance to grow.
I can choose to feel bad when I make a mistake, or I can be grateful for the valuable lesson I learn with each and every one.
It’s my choice. I choose gratitude. What will you choose today?
